Store Policies

Please reach me at kelli@themindfulloaf.com if you have any questions.

Inside the self serve stand: we accept cash or checks (these can be deposited into the BLUE drop box mounted on the wall next to the door). We also accept Credit/Debit cards, Google Pay, or Venmo (these will be submitted via your cell phone; there are QR codes inside the stand which you can scan and submit the payment from there). PLEASE NOTE: there may be limited or no change available inside the stand; if you are paying cash, please bring small bills with you.

Pre-orders: online orders can be paid for via Credit, Debit, Google Pay, or Apple Pay. You can instead choose to pay at pick up, utilizing one of the payment options in the previous paragraph.

For PayPal: if you would like to place a pre-order and pay via Paypal, please e-mail us your full order (kelli@themindfulloaf.com please include all details about what you'd like to order, such as flavors and quantities) and we will send you a payment link via e-mail which can be paid for using your PayPal account. We do not accept PayPal for in-person purchases.

Order Cancellation: any orders may be cancelled for a full refund as long as we are notified before 10am on the morning of your pick up day. If we are not notified before that time your order will not be eligible for a refund.

Pre-paid orders that are not picked up are NOT eligible for refund, remake, or store credit unless you NOTIFY US BEFORE 10AM on your pick up day that you will not be able to retrieve the order. Pre-paid orders will be held for two additional days after the original pick up day before being disposed of due to food quality concerns. We will send a courtesy reminder via text or email if the order isn't picked up.

If you have any issues with baked goods or other items you purchase at our stand, please let us know ASAP and we will be happy to resolve the situation.

We do not hold items unless a pre-order has been placed. This is out of fairness to every customer and no exceptions will be made. You are welcome to place a pre-order by the following deadlines:

For Saturday pick up orders: the ordering window closes at 8pm Thursday prior to pick up

For Tuesday pick up orders: the ordering window closes at 8pm Saturday prior to pick up

Pre-orders become available every Sunday morning by 10am for the next Saturday & Tuesday pick up.

Pre-paid orders will be held for two additional days beyond the pick up date before being disposed of.

"Pay cash/venmo at pick up" orders that are not retrieved/paid for by 8pm on their pick up day will be forfeited and made available to other customers the following day. If you intend to pick up the following day,  the order MUST be paid for by 8pm on the pick up day to reserve it (you can send a Venmo payment or we can send an online payment link for use with cards, Apple/Google Pay, or Paypal).

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at kelli@themindfulloaf.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The stand is located at 96 Dyer Bay Rd, in Steuben ME. Rather than having a storefront, there is a self serve "bread shed" located next to the driveway that operates on the honor system. You can order ahead online (which we highly encourage) and your order will be available for pickup from the stand on the chosen bake day anytime after 10am, or you can come by and see what items are available on a first come, first serve basis. The selection of first come, first serve items varies daily - for the most up-to-date info, check our Facebook page.

The stand is stocked with freshly baked goods every Tuesday and Saturday morning and is open on those days from 10am until dusk, or until it is empty (open on Saturdays only January-March). The stand is also open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays stocked with items from the most recent day's baking session at a discounted price but this is highly dependent on what is remaining for inventory - for the most up to date info on whether the stand is open on non-bake days, please see our Facebook page! If the stand is open on a Monday or Thursday it operates on a "take what you need, pay what you can" payment system.

NOTE - for the winter months, we bake on Saturdays only and will not be open on Tuesdays.

No - we do stock the stand with a limited variety of items on each bake day that are available on a first come, first serve basis, but it is highly recommended that you order ahead if you would like something specific, or if you would like a certain quantity of an item. The variety of extra items that are available is different from day to day, and sometimes quantities are quite limited.

We understand that sometimes life happens! If something comes up and you can't retrieve your order on your pick up day, please let us know ASAP - ideally before 10am on the day of your pick up if possible.

"Pay cash/venmo at pick up" orders that are not retrieved by 8pm on their pick up day will be forfeited and made available to other customers. If you intend to pick up the following day,  the order MUST be paid for ahead of time to reserve it.

By placing an order, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.

Absolutely! At checkout, you will see the option to enter card info, use Apple/Google pay, or "Pay cash/Venmo at pick up". If you select the last option, you will not be charged when placing the order and instead you pay when you retrieve it.

However, due to an increase in instances of unpaid orders not being picked up any "Pay cash/Venmo at pick up" orders that are not retrieved by 8pm on their pick up day WILL BE FORFEITED and made available to other customers the following day.

We are only two people, operating out of a residential kitchen (way over the capacity it should be capable of churning out, might I add). We have strict baking schedules as this is the only way that allows us to also have some semblance of sanity.

We bake on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. If you need to pick up on a Wednesday or Sunday, the order must be pre-paid and you acknowledge that you will be picking up day-old bakes.

If you need to pick up an order earlier than 10am, that might be possible depending on what is being ordered - please reach out to ask before ordering.

If the stand is open on a Monday or Thursday it operates on a "take what you need, pay what you can" payment system on those days only and it is stocked with the leftover items from the most recent morning's bake. What "pay what you can" means will vary from person to person, and only you can decide that for yourself - I definitely encourage families in need to come and help themselves, but I also appreciate those who can/do contribute financially in any amount as that helps keep the cycle turning (as much as I am honored to be able to help those in need, we do also rely on our bakes to provide for us as this is the full-time job for both of us!). We suggest 50% of the item's marked price as a financial contribution for anyone who is able to.

My only request is that those who visit are considerate that there may also be others in need, and please don't clean the stand out of everything all at once (and only take items you intend to eat, we don't like food waste!) - and to please pay this kindness forward someday however you are able to.

PLEASE NOTE - on other days marked prices apply to all items in the stand. "Take what you need, pay what you can" only applies on Mondays and Thursdays. "Pay what you can" does not apply to our Maine Grains bagged products or Mindful Loaf merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc)

We offer gluten-friendly cookies! What does gluten-friendly mean? Our kitchen is not gluten-free certified, but we can substitute the regular flour with a certified gluten-free flour. However, it is possible that Gluten Friendly items may come into contact with trace amounts of gluten during production.

I currently do not  offer sourdough or other baked goods as gluten-friendly, however due to the long fermentation process of our sourdough (24+ hours), some of those with gluten sensitivities find that they are more easily able to digest our bread than store-bought bread.
